Beginner Basics: How to Cast on at the Beginning of the Row

Have you ever made a pattern where you had to cast on at the beginning of the row? Here's how: Insert your right needle between the first and second stitches on your left needle (above).

Knit a stitch and place it on the end of your left needle.

Repeat these two steps until you have added the correct number of stitches to your left needle.

Knit those new stitches at the beginning of the next row.

Voila! The new stitches are now added to your knitting.
